Society

A most delightful affair was the Y.P.C.A. social given by Dr. and Mrs. N.F. Raines on the evening of Thursday, April 9, 1914. One room was converted into a menagerie, which proved to be a most interesting and unique contest. Every one was required to east his refreshments with his left hand, and this was very amusing.

On the evening of April 24, 1914, the members of the Y.P.C.A. were entertained by Miss Rosa Hale. Every one enjoyed the flower contest and the advertisement puzzle. A great deal of merriment was caused by the playing the game of "Faith, Hope and Charity".

The next social will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F.N. Taylor. We are anticipating a lovely time, for the two socials at their home have been most enjoyable.

Mrs. C.E. Allen, of Philadelphia, has been visiting her sister, Mrs. E.W. Hale

Mrs. W.B. Taylor and Miss Mildred Taylor, the guests of Mrs. W.E. Davis, visited the school one morning.

Mrs. J.W. Hale and Mrs. T.C. Horton are in Hot Springs, Ark. We are glad to know that both are improving in health.

W.H.S. extends congratulations to her former pupil, Barry Buford, now in Blue Mountain School, who recently won the medal there for oratory.

Mrs. C.E. Allen, of Pittsburgh, Pa., who has been visiting her sisters, Mrs. E.W. Hale and Miss Kimbrough, for the past two weeks, was a very pleasant visitor to our school Wednesday, April 19. Mrs. Allen was present for the assembly hour and gave in her most charming ways, a Southern story in the negro dialect of the Civil War period. So well did she picture the scenes of the "young master" and his faithful "George," that one felt almost as if it were all taking place right then.
