OF
STREET RAILWAY MAPS
These maps show a skeleton of the different street railway lines traversing the city, using the intersection of Main street and Madison avenue as the basic point. The East End line is one division. The Main street line is one division. The Poplar avenue line and the Vance avenue line is continuous. The Davie avenue, or South Wellington line, and the North Second street line is continuous. The Lane avenue line and the Beale avenue line is continuous. The Linden avenue line and the Johnson avenue line is continuous. The Suburban line is one division. The Raleigh Springs and Binghamton line is one division. The Jackson Mound line, the Florida street (South Memphis) line and the Kansas avenue line are separate and distinct divisions, but are all shown on one map, as they use the same tracks for a part of the route. The transfer system is universal and one transfer is given for each cash fare paid when requested, all crossings being transfer points. On the Raleigh Springs line the five-cent fare is operative to Binghamton only. After passing this point an extra fare is collected which carries the passenger to Raleigh or any station beyond Binghamton. The maps show the number of the street on which the car is running intersects the street crossing such car line, and such numbers hold good on practically all streets running parallel. So that to find a certain number on a street not traversed by a car line, it is only necessary to leave the car at the stop shown on the map as the nearest to the one desired and walk to the street wanted.
