HACK AND CAB ORDINANCE.
Fixing Charges by Public Hacks.

Section 1. That the rate of compensation for the use of any hackney coaches within the city of Memphis shall be as follows:

A. For transporting passengers with valises, carpet sacks and other articles of light baggage, from or to any railroad depot, hotel or steamboat landing in the city, within the city limits, as they existed prior to the act of 1899, for each passenger 50c, for each trunk 50c.

B. For transporting passengers with valises, carpet sacks and other such articles of light baggage, from or to any railroad depot, hotel or steamboat landing in the city beyond the old city limits as they existed prior to the act of 1899, and within the territory bounded on the east by Watkins ave., Garland ave. and the extension thereof, for each passenger 75c, for each trunk 75c.

C. For transporting passengers or valises, carpet sacks and such like articles of light baggage from or to any railroad depot, hotel or steamboat landing in the city, and without the territory included in sections A and B, for each passenger $1.00, for each trunk $1.00.

D. For one day's use for coach and driver $10.00.

E. For use of coach containing complement or less of passengers, with privilege of going from place to place in the city or in vicinity, for the first hour $2.00, for each successive hour $1.00, until the charge shall reach $10.00. Double the above rate charge may be charged after 9 p.m., except to and from steamboat landings to hotel, and to and from railroad depots to hotel. Said compensation shall only be 50c for the passenger and 50c for one trunk; provided, however, that the charge for the first hour's use of coach shall not exceed $2.00.

Sec. 2. Every public hackney coach shall have a printed copy of the rates of compensation enumerated in section 1 of this ordinance placed on the inside thereof.

Sec. 3. It shall be deemed a misdemeanor for any person or persons to violate or fail to comply with the above sections, and upon conviction he shall be fined not less than $1.00 nor more than $50.00 for each offense.
