"Rom Talbott, one of Franklin county's pioneer citizens, passed away at his home, 4 miles east of Mt. Vernon at 4:30 o'clock Friday morning, March 16th, 1923, and was buried in the City Cemetery Saturday, services being conducted by Eld. H.E. Chaffee of Winfield."He was the eldest son of A.G. Talbott and was born in McNairy County, Tenn., Sept 18, 1841. In December, 1846, A.G. Talbott moved his family to Texas and located east of Mt Vernon only a short distance from the home Rom Talbott has lived on ever since he was married.
"Mr. Talbott enlisted in the confederate army March 6, 1862, under Capt. Bill Christian of Mt. Pleasant and served until the end of the war in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.
"He married Miss Virginia Howell in July 1866, and four children were born to them, all of whom are living - Dr. C.A. Talbott of Clearwater, Mrs. Annie McLemore of Winfield, Mrs. Mollie Martin of Memphis, Tenn and Will Talbott of Winfield. After the death of his first wife Aug 7, 1874, he married Miss Emma Morgan January 20, 1876, and two children blessed this union, Mrs. Lee Stephens and a boy who died in infancy.
"Mr. Talbott had been a consistent member of the Baptist church at old Gray Rock since early manhood. He was a good citizen and a man who could be trusted.
"He leaves besides his children and grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters: Will Talbott of Mt. Vernon; R.D. Talbott of San Marcos; Mrs. C. P. Lindsey of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. D. Roberts of Mt.Vernon.
