Early Settlers of Fayette County:

Soon after the signing of the Treaty of 1818, which opened up the Western district, settlers began to pour into the area from the Carolinas, Virginia, Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee. They came by families and groups of families and settled in neighborhoods in the new territory. Many of them were of Scotch-Irish heritage.
