William B. Granbery, M.D.

William B. Granbery, M.D., a retired physician residing at Somerville, Tenn., was born in Hertford County, N. C., November 23, 1835, and is the son of John and Jane (Frasier) Granbery, both natives of North Carolina. They moved to Fayette County with our subject in 1835. Dr. Granbery was raised on a farm, and educated chiefly at Macon Masonic College, in Fayette County. In 1855 he commenced the study of medicine under Dr. R. A. Donoho, of Fayette County, and in the fall of 1856 he entered the Medical University at New Orleans, La., and attended one course of lectures, and in 1857 he entered the University of Pennsylvania, at Philadelphia, and graduated from that institution in the spring of 1858. He then commenced the practice of medicine in Fayette County, being constantly engaged with professional duties until 1882, when lie retired and moved to Somerville, where he has since been speculating and loaning money, also giving some time to farming. He owns 1,100 acres of valuable and well improved land in Fayette County. Dr. Granbery was very successful as a physician, and has been so in business matters. October 16, 1858, he married Emma J., daughter of Thomas G. and Ann L. Neal, of Fayette County, and they have six children: Anna Cossie, Kate 0., Thomas N., William R., Ruby E. and Roy. Mrs. Emma J. Granbery died December 21, 1884, and December 22, 1886, Dr. Granbery married Love 0., daughter of N. R. and Elizabeth J. Cartwright, of Fayette County. He is a member of the F. & A. M. and K. of H. In politics he is a Democrat. He is one of the influential and leading citizens of Fayette County.
